Sodium Intake and Exercise-induced AsthmaFrom the Authors:We thank Drs. Mickleborough and Lindley for their comments on our article (1), and we agree that there are many reasons why the promise of their findings in experimental asthma models did not translate into a benefit for typical patients with asthma. However, as a well-powered pragmatic evaluation of the clinical benefits on asthma control obtainable from adopting a relatively simple low sodium diet for 6 weeks in typical patients from outpatient and primary care populations, our findings are emphatic in demonstrating that dietary sodium manipulation has little to offer in the management of typical asthma.
